ARGUS FILCH
The enemy of all the students who constantly tried to discover them breaking a rule to betray them. Among his biggest enemies we find our golden trio (Harry, Ron, and Hermione), and students who like to do "pranks" for example: the four Marauders (James, Sirius, Remus, Peter), and the Weasley twins. Argus Filch is a squib that works at Hogwarts, and as far as we know one of the only two that have managed to enter Hogwarts, and the only one that has managed to stay. So, why is Argus Filch allowed to work at Hogwarts being a Squib?
The other squib who managed to enter Hogwarts was Angus Buchanan who tried to be sorted into a house, and when he was under the sorting hat, this one kindly indicated that the child beneath him was not a wizard. This fact is very remembered in Hogwarts as an atypical case in which a squib managed to enter. Being the only son of magicians but incapable of doing magic that has managed to get there. And yet, Filch walks through all the corridors without any problem every day. It is true that students usually do not know that he is a squib, but it is not something that no one knows. In fact, we learned about this in the second book, "the chamber of secrets".
Filch's work could easily be done by a magician with a simple spell or a house elf. So, what's so special about Filch that he can work at Hogwarts? Some might say that Dumbledore is simply kind and gives him the job so he can be part of the magical world in spite of being a squib. However, we do not see a great relationship between them. One could imagine that if Dumbledore gave him the job for that reason, Filch would be infinitely faithful to the man who gave him the job and while they are not enemies they do not seem to have a very good relationship either.
We can also imagine that they need someone to watch the corridors to control so many kids in a castle so big that nobody knows perfectly, not even Dumbledore. But, if we think about it, in the same reason we find why this could not be the case. How a single squib will get to know perfectly the castle and watch all the corridors that it has? To achieve that, it would be easier to get the paintings to watch and be able to warn when something happens with a student. Unless... What if the idea is not to monitor the students? What if the idea is to watch someone else? What if the idea is not to watch, but to entertain someone else? Who could they need to keep entertained so that it doesn't bother others?
That's right, Peeves. For those who do not remember Peeves is a naughty "poltergeist". J.K. Rowling has confirmed that this word comes from the German and means "noisy ghost", although it is not a ghost but an invisible entity that hits things, makes noise and other annoying movements. And in fact Peeves is continually making jokes all over Hogwarts. Who suffers this? Filch.

It is true that students are often targets of their jokes too. However, historically those who suffered most were the various "caretakers", from Hankerton Humble who was appointed by the founders to Argus Filch. We might think then that Filch is not the only squib that has managed to work at Hogwarts. According to J.K. Rowling, many caretakers have tried to expel Peeves from the castle but they have not succeeded. In fact, J.K. says that once you have Peeves, or someone like him, you can not get rid of him, you're stuck with him.
Finally, it is true that usually the only one who manages to control Peeves is the "Bloody Baron" ghost of Slytherin house. This it´s not that common, and it does not do it for the common good but rather for its own good. When this controls Peeves is so that he does not bother him and Peeves reacts out of fear. People have found that threatening Peeves with calling the Bloody Baron is a good way to control him or at least make him stop.
So to summarize, why Filch can work at Hogwarts? (and possibly many squibs before him too). Because of the existence of Peeves. Once Peeves appeared in the castle and began to make his jokes, someone else was needed. Someone who suffers the jokes of Peeves, try to control it (usually threatening to call the Baron), and clean up the chaos that Peeves generates.
What about you guys, what do you think? Is this the reason why a squib is allowed to work at Hogwarts? Leave your comments and share! And do not forget to follow the blog on Instagram to find out when there are new theories, and participate in different sections such as the movie tournament!
